We hear it time and time again: “I came to the reservation expecting one thing, and found so much more.”

It is always a pleasure to welcome visitors to our home, and we hope you’ll travel to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to witness firsthand the remarkable work and ministry our students, families and staff at Red Cloud Indian School realize each and every day.

Located in the southwest corner of South Dakota with the Badlands and Black Hills in the distance, our three schools, The Heritage Center and six active Catholic churches offer visitors a chance to learn firsthand how (and why!) the partnership between the Jesuits and Lakota people has been strong for nearly 125 years. You can marvel at the gorgeous stained glass windows of Holy Rosary Church, the contemporary art of The Heritage Center or honor Chief Red Cloud, the Jesuits and a number of other friends who have passed at the historic cemetery on our campus.

But that will just be part of your experience. While visiting the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, you’ll also be able to visit a number of historic spots on our sacred lands. Walk the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre, a U.S. National Historic Landmark and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Or camp and hike among the rugged beauty of the Badlands in the national park… and perhaps even discover a fossil from an ancient mammal like a rhino, horse or saber-toothed cat.
